On Saturday, December 3, 2016, LAGSD held the 4th annual Giving Back fundraiser. The fundraiser consisted of in-house scrimmages between our younger competitive teams. With players contributing a suggested $10 per game and referees volunteering their time, the fundraising event has a great recipe to raise much needed funds for worthy community causes.
Over the previous three Giving Back fundraisers the club has raised over $40,000, and these raised monies have made a life changing impact and, in certain instances, a life saving impact in our local community. This year’s event didn’t disappoint, with the amount raised for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) totaling $11,532.
CAF were chosen as the recipients due to their unbelievable support of our very first Giving Back fundraiser recipient and former club player, Aaron Loy (see video at bottom of page). Through the help of CAF, Aaron has just completed his second triathlon, something that initially would have seemed impossible after Aaron’s sudden illness and amputations.
“The Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is proud to be the beneficiary of La Galaxy San Diego’s Giving Back fundraiser,” said CAF Chief Executive Director, Virginia Tinley. “It’s our mission to provide opportunity and support to physically challenged athletes so they can pursue their athletic goals. With the funds donated through this fundraiser, CAF will support the athletic dreams of physically challenged soccer players by providing adaptive equipment and funds for travel assistance to tournaments. CAF is honored to have been introduced to LA Galaxy San Diego by former player Aaron Loy and are proud to have been a part of Aaron’s journey back to sport after illness.”
These events define our club and our community spirit. We really appreciate your help and know that CAF and the athletes they assist are extremely grateful for your support!
