Soccer Community Comes Together to Provide Invaluable Community Program!
City SC would like to say a big thank you to current club players Shayne Barnhill and Rishi Pathak, as well as all of the volunteer ‘buddies’ (listed below), for all of their hard work in running our 2022 Champions League program.
After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, our very worthy Champions League program made an inspiring comeback this fall.
If you are not familiar with the Champions League, it is a FREE 10 week program that runs September to November, offered to kids 2-18 years old who have medical and physical disabilities. All participants are paired up with a buddy to help them learn and grow as soccer players, all while having fun and getting exercise in a safe environment. Our volunteer buddies are mostly comprised of City SC players as well as high schoolers from the Carlsbad and North County school districts.

“The kids were all super fantastic,” said this year’s Champions League program lead, Shayne Barnhill. “Both volunteers and buddies were excited to get more touches on the ball and have fun. It was super rewarding for me to see everyone having such a great time. Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed to this amazing program!”
City SC President, Jim Barnhill, commented, “l love seeing the joy and bonds we create through our Champion’s League program. It is important that we ensure that every youth has access and the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful game that we all love!”
