Massive congratulations to Coach Manny and his 2008 Pre-Academy boys who won the 2018 BU10 Presidents State Cup at the Silverlakes Complex in Norco on Sunday, February 11, 2018.
The team sailed through group play but really started to rev things up in the knockout stages. Incredibly, over the five games in knockout play the boys scored an unbelievable 23 goals. In the quarter finals they beat Surf 5-1, in the semis they beat the much fancied TFA 3-1 and in the finals they beat Irvine Strikers 2-0.
A very proud Coach Manny commented, “This is a combination of dedication, hard work and application. The boys really bought into what we were trying to achieve and were extremely focused. Ultimately, they completely deserved to get this honor and I couldn’t be prouder of them!”
“This is a special group of boys with a special coach,” said LAGSD Technical Director, Steve Cowell. “Results are a by-product of development and we are all proud of what Manny and the boys have achieved!”
LAGSD Director of Boys, Glenn Malone, added, “Becoming State Cup Champions and the number one team in Southern California is an incredible achievement. Well done to Coach Manny and congratulations to all the boys who have shown what hard work and dedication can achieve. It is a proud moment for the boys program and the club as a whole!”
Overall, LA Galaxy San Diego had a great showing in the youngest age groups at State Cup with Coach Nick Howitt’s 2009 boys and Coach Alex Walker’s G08 Pre-Academy making the semis, and Coach Aldo Hernandez’s 2008 boys making the finals.
