LAGSD Players with Landon Donovan
As part of the Balboa Cup, seven players from our Boys 2000 Elite team were nominated by their high school coaches to be part of the all-star team representing San Diego in the ‘Sister City All Stars Soccer Tournament’ on August 15-16, 2018.
The event was hosted by San Diego International Sister Cities Association and players Jake Aaknes, Ryan Ashby, Dane Bruhahn, Nicholas Ciepley, Ryan Leonard, Cade Kronemyer and Eugene Sakai all traveled to Tijuana Mexico on Wednesday, August 15, to play against a similar Tijuana select team. The opposition was tough and San Diego lost 2-0 in the away fixture but came back strong in the home leg with a convincing 4-0 win which ultimately won them the tournament.
As part of the San Diego event, former U.S. Men’s National Team and LA Galaxy super star, Landon Donovan, made a special appearance.
The Sister Cities mission is to promote intercultural awareness and friendship with our Sister Cities and it was very cool that we had so many players selected to take part in this fantastic event. Well done boys!
