City SC Girls Academy Director Courtney Drummond is delighted to announce that Jeff Hughes has joined the Girls Academy staff. Coach Hughes will take over the head coaching duties for the U16 (2006) and the U13 (2009) GA teams with immediate effect.

Coach Hughes brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. Hughes spent the last year with the Cardiff Mustangs as their Girls Director. Prior to that he had a stint at Albion SC, directly involved in their U.S Development Academy as well as the Developmental Player League. Hughes has made an impact in every community he has stepped into. Prior to moving to San Diego, Hughes spent time in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was the Director of Player Development and Technical Director at Fairfield Optimist Soccer Club.

“Bringing in someone like Jeff shows our continued commitment to player development as well as our commitment to hiring the best coaches in the San Diego area,” said Girls Academy Director, Courtney Drummond. “Jeff is one of the most organized, experienced and enthusiastic coaches. He shares the same vision when developing players, believing in the process and putting the players first. I’m excited about the opportunity to work with someone who is like-minded and believes in the program and the direction I see our GA program heading.”

Hughes’ coaching vision is to create an environment/culture that instills the characteristics, values and disciplines in all players to foster growth and development on and off the field. His experience has allowed him to do that through positive communication and setting expectations, which has resulted in a lasting impact that players value in the present and future as they progress on the field or in life. Hughes wants players to mirror his preparation, expectations, energy and have a desire to continue to improve every day.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to join Courtney and the GA at City SC,” said Coach Hughes. “I’ve always admired the culture that they have built within the club and the passion that they coach with on the sidelines. The club has a winning mentality and I look forward to getting started with the 06 and 09 GA.”

Hughes also boasts a decorated playing career. He currently plays for the Ontario Fury in the Major Arena Soccer League and previously played in Germany for 1860 Munich, various indoor teams including the San Diego Sockers as well as the U.S Futsal National team.
