On Wednesday, June 21, the LAGSD Women’s Team travelled North to play against Huntington Beach based FC Pacific. With a moment of individual brilliance from Jackie Altschuld, LAGSD went ahead 1-0. As with recent games, LAGSD then had the lion’s share of possession and quite a few shots on goal. After both teams scored to leave the game 2-1, LAGSD gave up a late goal to end up tying the game 2-2.
On Saturday, June 24, LAGSD were away to Strikers FC and just as against FC Pacific, it was more of the same. The LAGSD Women’s Team hit the post three times, had a goal called back from offsides and were absolutely dominant throughout. After relentless attacks, Katie O’Laughlin scored a great goal on a cross but unfortunately Strikers FC managed to tie the game 1-1 after scoring on a late corner.
Head Coach, Greg LaPorte, commented, “Our offense is looking great. We are consistently creating opportunities on goal with our orchestrated attacks and set pieces. The challenge for us is to put away our chances and make the scoreline indicative of our performance. We keep letting teams back into the game and failing to close out games consistently.”
LaPorte continued, “We have a big weekend ahead consisting of two home games, Friday against FC Pacific and Saturday against local rivals San Diego SeaLions. We are hoping build upon our recent performances and hopefully we can put in a strong weekend of results.”
