Congratulations to our 2003 Elite boys who made it all the way to the semi finals of the 2019 USYS Regional Championships.
The team earned their right to Regionals after winning the BU16 Cal South National Cup in May, 2019, and when they got to Boise, ID, the winning streak continued. The boys topped their group with maximum points after beating FC Boulder 1-0, Santa Clara Sporting 2-0 and then Missoula Strikers 3-1.
In the quarter finals the boys played Hawaii Rush and, despite going in 3-0 up at half time, conceded two goals in the second half to make it a tighter affair than it should have been. Then, in the semis, the boys came up against their toughest opponents, a very talented LVSA team. Despite giving it their best, LVSA deservedly won 2-0 and also went on to win the final, highlighting their calibre. Regardless, it was a great run by our boys and something they should be very proud of.
LAGSD Director of Boys, Glenn Malone, commented, “To win National State Cup in one of the strongest states in the country and then then head to Far West Regionals and reach the semi finals is something that every one of these boys should be extremely proud. I know that myself and the club are extremely proud of them!”
“These young men played with courage and showed a great resilience in order to reach the semi finals of Regionals,” said B03 Elite Coach & Boys Academy Director, Paul Ritchie. “They were a credit to themselves, their families and to the club.”
These boys will now rest up as they prepare for the 2019/20 season as the newly formed LA Galaxy San Diego BU16/17 Academy team, officially participating in the Boys U.S. Development Academy League. Best of luck boys!
