On December 9, 2021 our Girls Academy headed up to Norco for the first ever Girls Academy Champions League event. The event gave our 6 teams three competitive games against opposition they wouldn’t normally face during divisional play in the regular season. Champions League competition was created to provide additional quality competition for the most competitive clubs in the GA. City SC qualified for this season’s competition based on the club’s consistent commitment to player development and overall success in performances last season.

The crossover games were drawn at random to make up each bracket and bring about the most meaningful games. The results of the event count towards our seeding for the final Champions League event in March. At the culmination of the event, each age group will have an overall champion as well as a club champion.

“To be recognized as one of the top clubs in the GA is an honor and something we don’t take lightly,” said Courtney Drummond, City SC Girls Academy Director “The event provided that and much more, it was nothing short of amazing. The night games that our U18/19 and U17 teams played in were electrifying. The energy was amazing, the competition was outstanding and the sidelines were filled and surrounded by college coaches. This past weekend was a tremendous example of what City SC is committed to. Providing our players with the highest level of competition and a system that prepares them for the next level. Collegiate exposure is our top priority and the Winter Showcase provided that and much more.”

Our teams faced tough competition throughout the week, playing against some of the nation’s top clubs and teams that are ranked #1 and #2 in their respective conferences. With a chance to be seen, games were scouted and evaluated by U.S Soccer Technical Advisors and scouts for talent identification to evaluate current YNT pool players as well as younger players for upcoming identification centers. The GA Winter Showcase was a prime spot for college recruiting with over 300 coaches attending the event, 200 plus were Division 1 schools. Over the course of two and half weeks our U17 and U18/19 had 233 Universities attend their games between the Winter Showcase and Surf Cup Thanksgiving weekend. It was a tremendous success for our U18/19 and U17 teams as they continue their recruiting process and commitment to play soccer at the collegiate level.
