The Galaxy Open is one of LA Galaxy San Diego’s primary fundraising and social events, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Held at the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside on Monday, September 18th, 2017, the tournament was a “scramble” format and the competition was fierce.
Courtesy of El Puerto Mexican & Seaford Restaurant, nearly 120 golfers lunched prior to hitting the course for a 1pm tee time. A very impressive 17 under par (55) landed first place to the four ball of Jim O’Grady, Matt Ginn, Scott Karl & Jeff Freeman. In second place with 14 under par (58) was Coach Carl Higham, Coach Brett Williams, Coach Greg LaPorte & Coach Rick Kreysar, while in third place with a very respectable 11 under par (61) was Coach Paul Ritchie, Mitchell Bailey, Ryan Kernion & Brandon Johnson. Closest to the pin was won by Ed Dunbar.

After the final groups had finished, the golfers and their entourage watched the helicopter ball drop (won by Warren Moreria) and putting contest final (won by Joe Barrion) under a beautiful sunset before retreating inside for the meal, prize giving, raffle, silent auction and, of course, the merriment.
With raffle prizes including; massages from Bella De’oro, wine baskets, sports memorabilia, gift cards, and Kenny Hoyle signed skateboard to mention a few, and auctions items including; Taylor Made putters and drivers; adidas Micoach Smart soccer balls, adidas golf shoes, rounds of golf at various course and a Sklz golf trainer there was plenty of great swag to be had!
The night had one final surprise with ‘The Walkers’ band popping in to play a few tunes. Usually live music gets people stirred up but this particular act had that X-Factor as it was Coach Alex and his dad (fresh in from Scotland), with Coach Paddy lending some support.

Overall, the day was a fantastic success and a massive thanks should go out to organizers Coach Gina and Coach Manny as well as to all volunteers, staff members and sponsors (listed below). In total, the event raised close to $20k which will go towards supporting several branches of our soccer club including:
