T
he Galaxy Open is one of LA Galaxy San Diego’s primary fundraising and social events, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Held at the El Camino Country Club in Oceanside on Monday, August 13th, 2018, the tournament was a “scramble” format and the competition was fierce.
Courtesy of El Puerto Mexican & Seaford Restaurant & Jersey Mike’s, over 100 golfers lunched prior to hitting the course for a 1pm tee time. A very impressive 13 under par (59) landed first place to the four ball of David Flores, Pedro Lopez, Mike Pottorff & Thomas Mullen. In second place with 12 under par (60) was Anthony Falco, Brian Rohr, Kent Miyamoto & Shane Hanlon, while in third place, also scoring 12 under par (60) was Coach Paul Ritchie, Mitchell Bailey, Ryan Kernion & Brandon Johnson. Jason DeHann won the longest drive competition while Jack Robbin, aged only seven, won the putting contest.

After the final groups had finished, the golfers and their entourage watched the helicopter ball drop (won by our very own Coach Courtney Drummond) under a beautiful sunset before retreating inside for the meal, prize giving, raffle, silent auction and, of course, the merriment.
With raffle prizes including; Mindset Sports, Momentum Training & Good Company Barber Shop gift certificates to mention a few, and auctions items including but not limited to; Taylor Made putters and drivers; adidas golf apparel and SKLZ equipment there was plenty of great swag to be had!

Overall, the day was a fantastic success and a massive thanks should go out to organizers Coach Gina and Coach Manny as well as to all volunteers, staff members and sponsors (listed below). In total, the event raised just under $20k which will go towards supporting several branches of our soccer club including:
- Families in need of financial assistance
- Our Specialist Goal Keeper program
- Field maintenance & team training equipment
- Coach education
- Our Champions League special needs soccer league
- Our over-seas, coaching exchange partnership with Challenger Sports
