On Sunday, October 17, 2021 City SC partnered with the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation for the third time to offer free heart screenings for young adults/athletes in the community as a means to help prevent the risk of sudden cardiac arrest.
City SC players ages 12-19 were eligible to participate and the club also opened the screening to all of Carlsbad’s youth sports organizations as well as several neighboring clubs and schools in North County.
The results from the screening yielded 199 youth screened with three participants diagnosed with previously undetected abnormalities which they will now be able to share with their physicians and monitor accordingly.
Sudden Cardiac arrest is a significant risk factor for young adults and fatal heart abnormalities often go undetected. Seemingly healthy youth often show no symptoms and heart screenings are not part of standard well child exams. The EP Save a Life Foundation is committed to reducing the risk of sudden cardiac arrest through their free heart screening program, through which they have screened over 34,000 teens. The screenings include a health history review, EKG consultation with a cardiologist, and if indicated, a limited echocardiogram.
As a club, we strongly encourage all of our players to be screened for heart abnormalities. For information on future screenings in our area, or to donate to help the EP Save a Life Foundation continue to do this all important life saving work in the community, visit: https://epsavealife.org/
