City SC is excited to announce that Jillian Shields has joined the club’s coaching staff. Shields has been named Head Goalkeeper Coach for the GA and DPL programs.

Shields has a long history with the club and as a youth player she made her mark on the local soccer scene as Jill Foss. Born in Oceanside, CA, she spent several years of her youth career playing for Carlsbad Lightning and was a standout goalkeeper at Carlsbad High School (under City SC Director of Girls, Carl Higham) where she was a four year letter winner for the Lancer Women’s Soccer team before graduating in 2005. She went on to play collegiately for two years at San Diego State University before transferring to Vanguard University where she became one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the NAIA. She was named a NSCAA All-America in her first season at Vanguard in 2007 and also earned All-GSAC and all-region honors.

“It’s been great following Jill’s progress as a former player of the club,” said City SC Director of Girls, Carl Higham. “She has become one of the most sought after goalkeeper coaches in North County and I’m looking forward to the connection and demands Jill is going to have working with our GA and DPL keepers.”

Beyond an impressive playing resume, Shields brings extensive coaching experience to City SC. Shields was mentored by former National Team Coach Tony DiCicco, coaching at his SoccerPlus Goalkeeper Camps. She has previously coached at MiraCosta College, Oceanside High School, Sage Creek High School and Oceanside Breakers. In addition to coaching at City SC she is also an Assistant Coach at Cal State University San Marcos where she has been on the women’s soccer coaching staff since 2014.

“We are very excited to welcome Jill home to the club,” said Michael Duggan, City SC Director of Operations. “Jill was a fantastic keeper herself who helped forge our girls program to great heights. It’s always special when you can have a coach and a player of Jill’s caliber help our players reach their dreams and inspire them that anything is possible if you want it enough.”
