Big congratulations to LA Galaxy San Diego B00 Elite player Marcos Lopez who has recently committed to Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Come this fall Marcos will start his four year journey at CSUSM, majoring in Computer Science.
Marcos had multiple offers from colleges far and wide but chose to stay closer to his Carlsbad home and family. He will hope to not only excel in the classroom but also make an impact on the field for the Cougars.
“As Director of the Boys program and someone who has witnessed the journey Marcos has been on for the past 10 years, I could not be more proud of this fantastic news,” said LAGSD Director of Boys, Glenn Malone. “Over the years Marcos has been a credit to his family and himself, and is the perfect example of what being a top student and great soccer player is all about. Being close to home and going to a great school is a perfect scenario, and as a club we wish him all the very best and we can’t wait to see where this next step takes him!”
LAGSD Boys College Liaison, Sean Gurley, added, “Marcos is the first player from a very talented boys 2000 team to commit to playing college soccer. I had the pleasure of coaching Marcos for the last three years and he is a shining example of what a student athlete should be, both on and off the field. He is a very bright player with a big game IQ, very calm by nature, and has excellent feet – all of which are attributes that translate well to college soccer. It is no surprise to me that he has received multiple college offers but Cal State San Marcos is a fantastic school and will be a great fit for Marcos. Many of our older boys teams are competing in various college showcases over the next few months and we are working hard to provide more visibility and communication lines to college coaches for these players.”
“I am very excited having committed to play soccer at Cal State University San Marcos,” said Marcos. “It is an excellent school and they have a very strong Men’s soccer team. I would like to thank all of my coaches for teaching me throughout the years.”
