On November 7, 2025, The Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation donated 10 Avive AEDs to City SC Carlsbad. The AEDs will help kickstart a club wide cardiac emergency response plan, ensuring that City SC Carlsbad players have access to an AED at all games and practices on the club’s home fields. In addition to directors and board members from both organizations, Carlsbad City Council Member, Kevin Shin, attended the donation ceremony.
City SC has partnered with the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation for the past 10 years, hosting multiple free heart screenings for youth in the Carlsbad community to help detect abnormalities that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest in youth athletes. The past two summers, City SC has worked with the Foundation to pilot “Keep Their Heart in the Game,” a program designed to protect young hearts by helping organizations implement cardiac emergency response plans. City SC piloted the program through the Carlsbad Cup and Coastal Classic tournaments. Cardiac Emergency Response Plans were created for all tournament venues and the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation provided access to AEDs.
With 10 AEDs now in the club’s hands, City SC is working on a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan for the 2026:27 season, which will include investing in additional equipment, ensuring that AEDs are present and accessible at the fields at all times, and most importantly that all coaches, staff, volunteers, parents and players know where they are and how to use them to ensure that all members will be empowered to help take life saving action in the event of an emergency.
“It’s not a matter of if, but when, a cardiac emergency will occur,” said City SC President Jim Barnhill. “Thank you to the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation for entrusting City SC with this donation of 10 Avive AEDs, which we will be staging throughout the City at games, practices and tournaments to reduce the response time for intervention.”
Details of the club wide emergency response plan will be distributed to all members and published on the club website for the 2026 season as soon as possible. City SC is beyond grateful for the longstanding partnership with the Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation and honored to lead the way in cardiac emergency response efforts in the local youth soccer community.
