Soccer Community Comes Together to Provide Invaluable Community Program!
LA Galaxy San Diego would like to say a big thank you to program lead and LAGSDΒ playerΒ Madelyn Lauro and all of the volunteer ‘buddies’ for all their hard work in leading ourΒ 2018 Champions League program.
If you are not familiar with the Champions League, it is a FREE 10 week program that runs September to November, offered to kids 2-18 years old who have medical and physical disabilities. Β All participants are paired up with a buddy to help them learn and grow as soccer players, all while having fun and getting exercise in a safe environment.
Our volunteer buddies are mostly comprised of LAGSD players but this year there were players from Blues, Surf and West Coast soccer clubs, as well as high schoolers from outside of the Carlsbad school district. It turns out this fantastic program was not only helping it’s participants but bringing together a local soccer community for the greater good.
Program lead, Maddie Lauro, who will be running Champions League one last time before heading to college, commented,Β “Champions League 2018 was fantastic! A special thank you to my volunteers and all the beautiful buddies. I enjoy coming out to make these kids happy and I am happy to be leading this program again in 2019. Thank you for all another fun season and I cannot wait for next year!”
