Our City SC Girls Academy teams have just returned from a highly successful showing at the 2026 GA Champions Cup in Bradenton, Florida. The Girls Academy League (GA) Champions Cup remains one of the premier events of the season, bringing together the top teams in the country based on league performance and qualification rounds, and once again, competing at IMG Academy, City SC proved its place on the national stage.

During this year’s final round, our teams delivered strong performances across all age groups with the 2012s reaching the final, the 2011s advancing to the semi-finals and our 2010s being crowned Champions Cup winners to cap off an outstanding week for the club. In addition, all other City SC teams competed at a high level throughout the event, gaining valuable college coach exposure while representing the club with professionalism, intent and consistency.

The 2010 group led the way, putting together a complete run to secure the championship, with their consistency, work rate, and ability to execute in key moments separating them throughout the competition. Reflecting on the group’s performance Head Coach Jeff Hughes shared, “This group showed what it means to compete at the highest level. Their consistency, discipline, and belief in each other throughout the week was exceptional. Winning a national event like this is a reflection of their daily habits and commitment to getting better.”

The 2012s made an impressive run to the final, demonstrating resilience and quality against top national competition, while the 2011s continued their strong form with a semi-final finish. City SC Director of Girls, Carl Higham, added, “What stands out most is not just the results, but the consistency across every age group. Our teams are competing with a clear identity, and that’s what allows us to perform in these environments.”

Beyond the results, the Champions Cup once again highlighted the strength of the City SC culture, from performances on the field to the environment off it, where the connection between players, staff, and families continues to be a defining piece of the program. City SC Academy Director, Jeff Hughes, commented, “This event is always a great reflection point for our club. The success on the field matters, but what makes this program special is the collective group—players, coaches, and families—all aligned in how we work and what we represent. That’s what continues to push us forward.”

City SC Director of Soccer Operations, Michael Duggan, added, “To see multiple teams competing deep into the tournament, and to come away with a championship, speaks to the standard across the program. These players and staff have earned it through consistent work, and we’re proud of how they represented the club on a national stage.”

City SC Director of Girls, Carl Higham, summarized the week by stating, “Across the board, this was a fantastic performance from our Girls Academy. A championship, a finalist, a semi-finalist, and strong performances from every team—it reflects the strength and depth of the program. Congratulations to all involved.”

The 2026 Champions Cup performance is another step forward for City SC Girls Academy program.
