On Saturday, December 7 and 14, 2019, City SC held the 7th annual Giving Back fundraiser. The fundraiser consisted of in-house scrimmages between our younger competitive teams, with volunteer referees and City SC competitive coaches ensuring that games went smoothly. Like previous years, the event was a huge success, raising a total of $10,041.44. Add this total to our previous six giving back events and we have now managed to raise over $80,000 for worthy community causes since this fundraising event’s inception. These raised monies have made a life changing impact and, in certain instances, a life saving impact in our local community.

This year we split the raised monies between City SC player Jocelyn Croxen and former club intern Miriam Panduro. Jocelyn is a member of our G2012 competitive program and in September was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Miriam, who has been part of our club family for 10+ years, was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that affects soft tissues, which connect, support, and surround bones and organs in your body. After a tumor in her ankle failed to respond to several rounds of chemo doctors were forced to amputate Miriam’s lower left leg to remove the cancer in September.

“Since it’s inception, the Giving Back Friendlies have been one of our favorite club wide traditions, but this year’s event was extra special knowing that we were working together in support of two of our own club family members,” said City SC Club Manager, Natalie Eckerlin. “Miriam and Jocelyn are both strong, inspirational, and all around amazing young women and it’s been an honor and a privilege to be able to help support them in their respective battles against cancer.”

Recipient Jocelyn Croxen said, “I want to thank all of my team mates and the rest of the players in the club for coming out and playing for Miriam and myself. It means so much!”

City SC President, Skye O’Grady, commented, “As we reflect on our most recent charity friendlies, our goal of a continued commitment to our community was a success due to the dedication and support of our amazing volunteers.  We look to 2020 to carry on this legacy of giving back and extend our appreciation to all that help in making our club one that cares.”

“I want to thank everyone who participated during the Giving Back fundraiser week, especially the players for going out to play,” said recipient Miriam Panduro. “I also want to thank all the families and coaches that showed their support for myself and Jocelyn. Everyone’s participation made the difference. I can’t wait to share with you all when I have my prosthetic. Again, I want to thank you all. God Bless!”

These events define our club and our community spirit. We really appreciate your help and know that Jocelyn and Miriam are extremely grateful for your support!
